Japanese software developer P SOFTHOUSE has released the latest version of its non-photorealistic rendering plugin, PSOFT Pencil+4 for 3ds Max.
Used in acclaimed feature films such as Makoto Shinkai’s multi-award-winning Your Name. and Hideaki Anno’s Rebuild of Evangelion movies — and recently adopted by Rooster Teeth in Texas for RWBY season 4 — the tool reproduces the look of pen-and-ink and color pencil drawings, cel animation and sketch-like pencil lines in 3D.
Version 4 was developed with feedback from production houses, primarily those working in TV animation and feature film, with an emphasis on optimizing workflow and improving productivity. The updated Pencil+ introduces massive speed increases, Nitrous viewport display, material penetration, new edge detection settings and more. The new version is priced at 60,480 yen (a little over $540 USD).
