Paramount Pictures is closing out 2017 by getting its feature film release date ducks in a row for the coming years. Sadly, Bikini Bottom fans will have to wait a little longer for the third SpongeBob SquarePants movie, which has been pushed back to July 31, 2020 from its previous Aug. 2, 2019 date.
There is also a strong Hasbro toy and game-inspired lineup coming in partnership with Allspark Pictures, with a new G.I. Joe hitting theaters March 27, 2020 and possibly sparking a whole Hasbro Movie Universe. Paramount has also slated Micronauts for Oct. 16, 2020. An untitled Hasbro film is set for Oct. 1, 2021 — previous reports have hinted that the interconnected movieverse will eventually tie in Visionaries, M.A.S.K. and ROM.
Tabletop gaming fans can look forward to a new Dungeons & Dragons adaptation, out July 23, 2021. Hopefully this will turn out better than the 2000 attempt (although, being the only person in an entire theater IS a memorable experience). Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Warner Bros. is no longer developing their D&D project.
Earlier this month, Paramount also dated its remake of Stephen King’s Pet Sematary, giving it a darkly appropriate Easter weekend release on April 19. 2018. The studio handled the original 1989 adaptation, a pop culture horror touchstone starring Dale Midkiff, Denise Crosby and Fred Gwynne.
The upcoming slate as previously announced includes Sherlock Gnomes (March 23, 2018), Bumblebee (Dec. 21, 2018), Ilion Animation co-pro Amusement Park (March 15, 2019), Transformers 6 (June 28, 2019), Dora the Explorer (TBA 2019) and The Loud House (Feb. 7, 2020).
This 3rd Spongebob Film was to’ve been the last Theatrically Released Traditionally Animated film of the 2010s, now it’s not releasing in the 2010s as at all. Of course, right now this decade only had 3 films in that format we thought we’d never see again (Winnie the Pooh, Sponge out of Water, and My Little Pony: The Movie), with another one coming next year (Teen Titans Go! To the Movies).

Now Teen Titans Go To the Movies is going to be the last Theatrically Released Traditionally Animated Film of this Decade.
Man, Paramount Animation has not been that lucky with releasing films outside the first quarter of a year, and only 2 Nickelodeon Movies films of this decade have actually been based off Nickelodeon Shows (the other being Amusement Park due for 2019). It’s a good thing Paramount Animation came to be, same said for Nickelodeon Movies still being I intent on doing Traditionally Animated Films (Sponge of of Water was their first film based off a Nickelodeon Show since Barnyard in 2006).
Next Decade, this 3rd Spongebob Film is among 4 Theatrically Released Traditionally Animated films for it. Others include The Loud House Movie, Adventure Time Movie (no date set yet), and Family Guy Movie (no date set for that either). Yep, the only Traditionally Animated films that release Theatrically nowadays are ones based off already existing animated media.
