Animator-Director César Pelizer Signs to Hornet

Creative content house Hornet announces the global signing of London-based illustrator, animator and director César Pelizer (Looking for Something) — a distinct creative voice whose work balances on the edges of absurdism, amusement and unease while playing with th contradiction of working in CG while tamping down the visual depth.

“Although César’s worlds are minimal, it’s not to be mistaken for simple or naive,” said Hana Shimizu, Executive Producer, Hornet. “I love how his storytelling is provoking and whimsical at the same time. In this dichotomy of his sensibilities, I find an incredible richness and unique voice. We’re so excited to partner up with him at this stage of his career where his distinct voice adds a new dimension to our family of directors.”

Growing up in Brazil, Pelizer developed an admiration of comics, and scoured the magazines his grandfather brought home from his publishing job in Sao Paulo for illustrations. He was also a fan of Disney animation, and began teaching himself to draw by trying to replicate characters and illustrations, and creating his own versions when he couldn’t. Pelizer got his first illustration job at 15, and began teaching himself Flash animation at 16. Two years later, he moved to Argentina for university, but quit to work at an animation studio for several years. A fateful trip to London landed him at motion studio weareseventeen.

Now allied with Hornet, Pelizer is looking to turn his self-teaching impulses to new technologies in virtual and augmented reality. As his animatoin and illustration work go hand-in-hand, Pelizer is also interested in helping to create a fully integrated campaign, from branding to ads to design.
