The 2018 Pokémon World Championships have kicked off in Nashville with the reveal of the full title of the upcoming, first-ever live-action film for the property and official logo: POKÉMON Detective Pikachu. Director Rob Letterman and actors Justice Smith and Kathryn Newton joined The Pokémon Company’s president Tsunekazu Ishihara on stage in a surprise appearance for the announcement.
The stars also led the room full of champion level Pokémon players in a “Pikachu!” chant, which was recorded to be used in the film.
POKÉMON Detective Pikachu is being produced by Legendary Entertainment and The Pokémon Company for release on May 10, 2019.
