Netflix Pleads Out on Nicole Silverberg’s ‘Bad Crimes’

Nine months after it announced a 10-episode order, Netflix has reportedly cut the adult animated comedy Bad Crimes from its slate — the latest in a much-discussed string of toons quietly dropped at the streamer. Created by award-winning comedy writer Nicole Silverberg, the series was being executive produced by animated comedy icons Mike Judge and Greg Daniels, voice starring Nicole Byer and Lauren Lapkus.

Described by then-Head of Adult Animation for Netflix Mike Moon (who has since left to form his own venture) as “a dream project,” the dark comedy procedural-style series follows Kara (Byer) and Jennie (Lapkus), two FBI agents who travel across the country to solve grisly crimes while juggling their friendship, career ambitions, and as many men as possible.

Silverberg (Full Frontal with Samantha Bee), an Emmy nominee and winner of a WGA Award and GLAAD Award, and the other exec producers retain the right to find a new accomplice for Bad Crimes.

Dustin Davis is executive producer alongside Judge and Daniels (King of the Hill) under their Bandera Entertainment banner, which has been ramping up its slate with a number of projects announced — including Peacock’s first adult toon — as well as Erica Hayes (Big Mouth, BoJack Horseman) for Netflix, Byers and Lapkus.
