HIDIVE Summons Horror Anime ‘Dark Gathering’ to Summer Simulcast

Anime fans are in for a scary good time this summer on HIDIVE, which has acquired Pony Canyon’s new horror-supernatural series Dark Gathering. Based on Kenichi Kondo’s popular shounen manga series of the same name, the anime adaptation was first revealed last summer and is now set to premiere this July in Japan and as an exclusive summer simulcast on HIDIVE’s streaming service.

“We’re proud to have acquired this one-of-a-kind series from Pony Canyon and eager to premiere Dark Gathering as a HIDIVE exclusive series in July,” said John Ledford, President of HIDIVE. “Japanese horror is truly unique in the genre as well as a true rarity in anime, so we’re thrilled to introduce Pony Canyon’s Dark Gathering to international fans around the world. Dark Gathering joins our exciting summer simulcast line-up and illustrates our ongoing commitment to bring subscribers the best of Japan’s new anime each season.”

Synopsis: After a devastating encounter with a restless spirit, ghost-fearing psychic Keitaro Gentoga became a shut-in to avoid additional spectral catastrophes. But no man is a haunted island, and Keitaro eventually reintegrates with society by getting a part-time job as a tutor to the child prodigy Yayoi Houzuki. Yayoi isn’t just an academic genius, though. She’s a talented psychic medium hell-bent on finding the malevolent spirit behind her mother’s disappearance, and she’s gravely determined to drag Keitaro into her terrifying world of grotesque supernatural phenomenon.

Launched in 2019, Kondo’s Dark Gathering is serialized in Shueisha’s Jump Square and currently spans 12 volumes. The anime adaptation is directed by Hiroshi Ikehata and written by Shigeru Murakoshi, and is produced by OLM with music by KOHTA YAMAMOTO, Shun Narita and Yūsuke Seo.
