We wonder how original creator Walter Lantz (1899-1994) would feel about the new hybrid live-action-CG feature Woody Woodpecker Goes to Camp movie, which is coming to Netflix on April 12. Directed by Jon Rosenbaum, who has also directed episodes of Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock and sitcoms such as Lopez vs. Lopez, Girl Meets World and Just Add Magic, the feature brings back Lantz’s clever bird with the unforgettable laugh, which was first introduced in the short Knock Knock back in 1940.

The storyline finds Woody getting kicked out of the forest, and finding a new forever home at Camp Woo Hoo, until an inspector threatens to shut down the camp. The script is by Cory Edwards (Hoodwinked, Yellowbird), Jim Martin (Woody Woodpecker 2022 series) and Stephen Mazur (Jingle All the Way 2; Liar, Liar) based on a story by Mazur and Edwards. The producer is Jon Kuyper (Raised by Wolves, Thirteen Lives, Alphas). The movie was produced by Universal 1440 Entertainment.
Woody Woodpecker Goes to Camp features the ubiquitous and talented Eric Bauza as the voice of Woody, Kevin Michael Richardson as Buzz Buzzard and Tom Kenny as Wally Walrus. The live-action cast includes Chloe De Los Santos, Josh Lawson, Mary-Louise Parker, Esther Son, Evan Stanhope and George Holahan-Cantwell.

The first live-action CG-hybrid Woody movie (Woody Woodpecker: The Movie) was released theatrically in the Latin American market in 2017 and was released as a direct-to-video project elsewhere. It was directed by Alex Zamm and also featured Bauza as the voice of the popular animated bird.
