Fans of FOX’s Animation Domination got their first hint of the new Winter season thawing out in the network’s recent primetime premieres presentation, and there appears to be a major schedule change in store. The block is expected to launch new episodes of its toon favorites in February.
The Sunday lineup as announced in the preview is led by Family Guy Season 23 (continuing from October), Grimsburg Season 2, The Great North Season 5 (continuing from December) and Krapopolis Season 2 (continuing from September). Notably absent are the multi-award-winning stalwarts The Simpsons Season 36 and Bob’s Burgers Season 15, both continuing from Fall premieres, which are presumed to be shifting to Wednesday night.
Family Guy, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2024, had previously been shifted to Wednesdays. At the time, FOX CEO Rob Wade explained that the network was “looking at the schedule in a more modern way,” adding: “Instead of looking simply at the traditional time slots of shows, we look at the entire portfolio. We also think about SVOD partner in Hulu and how it would work best for them. Scheduling has changed significantly over the years and we approach it in a different way now.”
The longest-running American animated series (as well as the nation’s longest-running sitcom and longest-running scripted primetime series), The Simpsons will surpass 800 episodes this season, which will cap the sow’s most recent renewal order from 2023. That announcement also confirmed Bob’s Burgers and Family Guy renewed through to their current 15th and 23rd seasons, respectively.
