Lakeside Animation (Red Iron Road, Sonya from Toastville), together with creators Dave Anthony and Gareth Reynolds, announced The Dollop: The Animated Series — a 10 x 5-minute animated series based on the critically acclaimed historical comedy podcast The Dollop. The series will premiere on Lakeside Animation’s YouTube channel on January 4, with new episodes rolling out on a weekly schedule thereafter.
“We’ve been huge fans of The Dollop for years. Partnering with them is an honor and creating something this special is exactly what we love to do at Lakeside,” said studio CEO Iouri Stepanov.
The Dollop podcast, which began as Dave’s Dollop before evolving into its current iteration when Anthony and Reynolds teamed up, explores bizarre and often absurd events in history through the lens of irreverent humor. Known for its blend of historical storytelling and comedic improvisation, the show has gained a massive following over the years. Now with The Dollop: The Animated Series, fans can watch these absurdly funny events unfold in 2D animation.
“Dave and Gareth tell the wildest stories in such an animated way, it makes my job easy. I’m so proud of the quality our team has produced and excited to share this work with the Dollop’s legions of fans,” said Lakeside’s Chief Creative Officer Matt Lyon, who is directing the series.
Anthony and Reynolds added, “This is the Dollop show we have wanted to make for a decade. The insane tales that we have discussed and explored on this podcast have always begged for the right animation to give them new life. Lakeside has done just that. We have no shortage of wild stories and they have no shortage of skill to show you them. Very excited about this partnership.”
Lakeside Animation, in collaboration with Cutting Class Media, will be handling distribution and is already exploring opportunities to scale the series into a longer format, including a potential full-length animated series. The series will form part of Cutting Class Media’s new distribution catalog, with additional titles to be announced early in 2025. The company was formed in June of 2024 by industry veterans Joshua Bowen and Carly Sacks.
