The Pinkfong Company, the Seoul-based global entertainment company behind Baby Shark, today announced the establishment of its fifth global office in Tokyo, Japan, joining its existing operations in Los Angeles, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Singapore. This strategic expansion into Japan will capitalize on Pinkfong’s intellectual property portfolio to expand media distribution channels, produce live performances, and forge partnership opportunities across the Japanese market.
Gemma Joo, Chief Business Officer, will extend her leadership role to head the new Tokyo office, overseeing this significant step in the company’s global growth strategy.
In addition to establishing the Tokyo office, the company is launching several business initiatives across distribution, live events, and merchandise. Throughout 2025, BABY SHARK LIVE! The Hidden Treasure, the global hit live show featuring Pinkfong and Baby Shark, will tour nationwide across Japan.
“With its rich history of animation and character-based entertainment and passionate fan base, Japan is a strategic cornerstone in our global growth strategy. By establishing our Tokyo office, we’re creating a hub that will allow us to connect deeply with Japanese audiences,” said Min-seok Kim, CEO of The Pinkfong Company. “We look forward to bringing more immersive experiences, quality content and innovative partnerships to families across Japan in the years to come.”
The Pinkfong Company has been steadily expanding its presence in the Japanese market. A pop-up store launched in June 2022 in collaboration with the kids café Little Planet attracted over 128,000 visitors, representing a 132% increase from the previous year. Beginning in August 2022, the company partnered with Lawson, one of Japan’s top three convenience store chains, to sell character posters, merchandise and educational materials across more than 14,000 locations nationwide, with Soundbook sales exceeding 130,000 copies within six months of launch. In May last year, the company launched the webtoon Moon Shark: From Underwater Princess to Celebrity on Naver Webtoon’s Line Manga, the largest webtoon service in Japan, rapidly expanding brand recognition among Japan’s Gen Z readers.
Since its founding in 2010, The Pinkfong Company has created popular IPs such as Pinkfong and Baby Shark, offering content in 25 languages across 244 regions worldwide. The company’s YouTube channels have accumulated over 140 billion views and 240 million subscribers, with daily averages of 130 million views and 210,000 new subscribers. Its flagship content “Baby Shark Dance” has reached 15.6 billion views, maintaining its position as YouTube’s most-viewed video with nearly double the views of the second-place video.
The Pinkfong Company will soon kick off a year of festivities to celebrate 10 years of Baby Shark, hosting a range of programs throughout 2025.
