Brainstorm Productions announces its upcoming 1st Annual Celebration of Animated Film & Art on April 9, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the AMC Rolling Hills 20 theaters at 2591 Airport Drive, Torrance, Calif., 90505.
The evening, honoring Autism Acceptance Month, will include a screening of nine animated short films written and directed by neurodiverse artists who have graduated from Brainstorm Productions’ three-year animation academy. The event will raise funds for the non- profit’s unique ongoing programs that prepare artists to work in the arts and entertainment industry and to create their own micro-enterprises.
The first of its kind, this collaborative event involves organizations that feature and serve the local autistic community, including Mychal’s Learning Place, ICAN California Abilities Network and Harbor Regional Center. Sponsors including Malaga Bank, The South Bay Film Society, AMC Rolling Hills 20, Raising Cane’s and others have made the event possible.
The evening begins at 5:30 p.m. with the red carpet arrival of the artists and directors. Tickets costs $25 and include sandwiches, chips and beverages which can be enjoyed until the screening begins at 7:00 p.m. After the screening (approximately 7:40 p.m.), guests will enjoy dessert and refreshments while mingling with the artists and program personnel.
Sylvia Owens, program supervisor at Brainstorm Productions, says the staff and artists are really excited about the first of what they hope will be many annual events. “We’re thrilled about this opportunity to showcase the abundant and awesome talent and capabilities of our neurodiverse population.”
Brainstorm Productions is a subsidiary of CLU Transitions Career Training Program. “The mission of our three year program is to cultivate strengths and guide each artist to succeed in competitive employment as accomplished 21st century citizens” said Ginny Erxleben, program director.
