‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ Roars onto Disney+ on March 26

Streaming audiences around the world will  get to experience the epic adventure, unforgettable music and cinematic visuals of Mufasa: The Lion King as the film debuts on Disney+ on March 26.

Directed by Oscar winner Barry Jenkins and featuring all-new songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda — including the viral tune “I Always Wanted a Brother” — Mufasa: The Lion King has earned over $700 million at the global box office, becoming one of the top 10 biggest global releases of 2024.

Now, the pic arrives on streaming exclusively thru Disney+, where it joins other titles from the franchise including The Lion King (1994), The Lion King (2019), The Lion Guard and the recently-released The Lion King at the Hollywood Bowl concert special.

Synopsis: Exploring the unlikely rise of the beloved king of the Pride Lands, Mufasa: The Lion King enlists Rafiki (John Kani) to relay the legend of Mufasa (Aaron Pierre) to young lion cub Kiara (Blue Ivy Carter), daughter of Simba (Donald Glover) and Nala (Beyoncé Knowles-Carter), with Timon (Billy Eichner) and Pumbaa (Seth Rogen) lending their signature schtick.

Told in flashbacks, the story introduces Mufasa as an orphaned cub, lost and alone until he meets a sympathetic lion named Taka (Kelvin Harrison Jr.) — the heir to a royal bloodline. The chance meeting sets in motion an expansive journey of an extraordinary group of misfits searching for their destiny —their bonds will be tested as they work together to evade a threatening and deadly foe.

Now through March 30, new and eligible returning customers can subscribe to the Disney+, Hulu Bundle Basic for $2.99/month for four months — a $32 savings compared to the regular monthly price for four months — by visiting www.disneyplus.com.
