The stars have aligned for Quantum Quest, an upcoming CG-animated, large-format 3-D action-adventure film that interweaves computer-generated sequences with actual space imagery captured from seven ongoing NASA and NASA/ESA space missions. The voice cast will include a number of names associated with the Star Trek and Star Wars film series, including two Captain Kirks and two Darth Vaders.
Lending their voices to the pic are Chris Pine (Captain Kirk in J.J. Abrams’ upcoming Star Trek reboot), Samuel L. Jackson (The Spirit), Hayden Christensen (the Star Wars saga), Amanda Peet (X-Files: I Want to Believe), Robert Picardo (Stargate Atlantis), Jason Alexander (Seinfeld), Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants), Sandra Oh (Grey’s Anatomy), Brent Spiner (Star Trek: Next Generation), James Earl Jones (Star Wars), William Shatner (Star Trek), Mark Hamill (Star Wars), Doug Jones (Hellboy), Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine), Spencer Breslin (The Happening), Gary Graham (Enterprise), Janina Gavankar (The L Word) and legendary astronaut Neil Armstrong.
Quantum Quest is a sci-fi effort set in a scientifically accurate, three-dimensional rendering of our solar system. Viewers will be taken on a simulated solar safari, exploring the outer planets and moons of our solar system. Directed by Dan St. Pierre and Dr. Harry Kloor from a script and original concept by Kloor, the unique film tells the story of an epic battle between the forces of good and evil. The central character is Dave (Pine), a photon living in the Sun when he and his people are drawn into a galactic battle between The Core (Shatner), the embodiment of the Sun, representing life and knowledge, and The Void (Hamill), the embodiment of nothingness, who wishes for total annihilation of the universe.
Set to premiere in large-format and conventional theaters in late 2009, the film is presented by Digimax, a digital content provider in Taiwan, and sponsored in part by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). It is produced by Digimax and Jupiter 9 Prods., a full service Hollywood production company. Shawn Clement (Open Season, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) is the composer.
The production was initiated by NASA’s JPL as part of the outreach program of the Cassini Huygens space mission in 1996. The final product is meant to be entertaining while having underlying scientific educational goals. Apollo astronaut Neil Armstrong, who recently appeared in the CG-animated film Fly Me to the Moon form nWave Pictures, serves as one of four distinguished education ambassadors for the property.
Quantum Quest is produced by Kloor, president of Jupiter 9 Prods.; Helen Pao-Yun Huang, chairperson of Digimax; Jeff Tzong-Jer Yang, VP of Digimax; and Rayna Napali of Jupiter 9 Prods. Tom Teng from Digimax, Teddy Zee, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein and Jon Vein are exec producers. The film will be distributed and marketed in Asia by Digimax, and by Jupiter 9 in all other territories.
