Audiences Select Selick’s Magic

Focus Features’s 3-D, stop-motion feature Coraline earned $16.4 million in its opening weekend’good enough for third place.

Leading the weekend was the Warner Bros. / New Line romantic comedy He’s Just Not That Into You, which grossed $27.5 million, according to Box Office Mojo. Taken, which won last weekend’s box office, fell to second place with $20 million and a cumulative gross of $53 million.

The weekend’s other major new releases included the Steve Martin comedy Pink Panther 2, which opened in fourth place with $12 million and the sci-fi action movie Push in sixth place with $10.2 million. Sandwiched in between was Paul Blart: Mall Cop, which earned $11 million it its fourth weekend of release.
