Festival to Bestow First Student Annies

The ASIFA-Hollywood Animator Educators Forum will present its first Student Annie Awards at its second annual student animation festival, set for Nov. 6 on the campus of CSU Long Beach.

The free event gives students enrolled in academic programs a chance to show their work to the Southern California animation community.

The forum has designed the festival with the objective of establishing a worldwide student animation event that will help students transition into a professional career.

The winners of the five awards — chosen by peer groups — will be announced at the event and include:

• The Student Annie Award for best animated short
• The Silver Award for second place
• The Bronze Award for third place
• Two Honorable Mention awards

Award winning short animations as well other stand-out entries will be screened at the event. A panel discussion with industry experts will also be part of the program.

In addition to the competition portion of the event, a demo reel and portfolio review will be offered to the public.

The ASIFA-Hollywood Student Animation Film Festival sponsors include ACME Filmworks, Autodesk, Animation Magazine, California State University Long Beach, DreamWorks Animation, DigiCel Flipbook, Focal Press, Journey Ed, Stash Media and Wacom.
