It took a while, but The Weinstein Co.’s long-in-the-works sequel to its 2005 hit Hoodwinked! is finally coming to theaters this weekend.
Hoodwinked Too!: Hood vs. Evil is set to play in slightly more than 2,500 theaters this weekend. A successful opening for the film would continue this year’s animated hot streak at the box office, which has seen films such as Gnomeo & Juliet, Rango and Rio outperform their live-action competitors. Directed by Mike Disa (read our interview with him here), the film features the voices of Hayden Panettiere, Glenn Close , Joan Cusack, Bill Hader, Amy Poehler, David Alan Grier, Andy Dick, Brad Garrett, Martin Short, Patrick Warburton, Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong.
Take a look at the trailer:
The original Hoodwinked! opened Dec. 16, 2005, with an opening weekend gross of $12.4 million and a total worldwide gross of about $110 million.
Also entering the market this weekend is the horror/comedy film Dylan Dog: Dead of Night. Based on the Italian comic book by Tiziano Sclavi and released by Omni Labs/Freestyle Releasing, the film stars former Superman Brandon Routh and looks to play in about 850 theaters.
The widest new releases are Fast Five, the most-recent entry in Universal’s racing series, in some 3,600 theaters; and Buena Vista’s teen-oriented comedy/drama Prom.
Strong holdovers include the animated features Rio and Hop.
