‘Family Guy,’ ‘Simpsons,’ ‘Robot Chicken’ Lead Toon Emmy Noms

Fox’s Family Guy leads animated contenders in the nominations for the 63rd annual Primetime Emmy Awards with four nominations, even as it missed being nominated for Outstanding Animated Program.

The Fox series earned three music-related nominations: two for Outstanding Music Composition in a Series and one for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics. It also was nominated for Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series (Half Hour) and Animation.

Another Fox series, The Simpsons, was right behind with three nominations. Earning two nominations was Futurama, while Robot Chicken earned two nominations and the special Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode III added a third for the franchise.

Animated shows with a single nomination included Adventure Time, The Cleveland Show, Disney’s Prep & Landing: Operation Secret Santa, The Looney Tunes Show, South Park and SpongeBob SquarePants.

The winners will be announced in a gala ceremony set for Sept. 18 at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. Fox will broadcast the event live starting at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
