Park City, Utah’s funkier cinema convocation, Slamdance Film Festival, has wrapped up its 25th edition, with Nicole Brending’s throat-punch puppet animation Dollhouse: The Eradication of Female Subjectivity from American Popular Culture taking the Narrative Feature Grand Jury Prize. Written, directed, produced by and starring Brending, the flick charts the rise and fall of Junie Spoons — a child star who peaks at 18 only to be relegated to the junk drawer of society. Brending also won the George Starks Spirit of Slamdance Award.
The Animated Shorts Grand Jury Prize was awarded to Shalva (=Tranquility), the first year CalArts film by Israeli-born animator and graphic artist Danna Grace (Dan G.) Windsor. An honorable mention was given to Nienke Deutz’s Bloeistraat 11, which also won the CreativeFuture Innovation Award.
