TOKYOPOP Taps Rene Garcia as VP of Film & TV

Former Craven-Maddalena president of production Rene M. Garcia has joined L.A.-based manga and animation house TOKYOPOP as VP of Film and Television.

“Manga’s kinetic storytelling style and ever-increasing popularity put TOKYOPOP at the vanguard of a revolution in the entertainment industry,” says Garcia. “I can’t imagine a cooler assignment than helping to bring the power of this character-driven art form to the screen.”

With producing credits that most recently include a remake of The Lavender Hill Mob in development with director Dean Parisot, Garcia’s entertainment experience spans more than 20 years in film and television production and development. Prior to joining TOKYOPOP, Garcia produced feature projects for his Alomar Drive Pictures, and headed Craven-Maddalena’s production and development. His background also includes senior executive posts with Spelling Films and MTV: Music Television.
