New ‘Slime Rancher’ Movie in the Works from Story Kitchen and Monomi Park

Another hit videogame is leveling up to the big screen. Deadline reports today that Monomi Park’s hit videogame franchise Slime Rancher will be adapted into a feature project by Story Kitchen.

First released as an early access title in 2016, and then officially released in August of 2017, the first-person life sim adventure centers on a feisty, young rancher named Beatrix LeBeau who moves to a planet far from Earth named Far Far Range. There she has to construct her ranch and explore the alien world to collect, raise, feed and breed slimes (gelatinous living organisms of various sizes and characteristics).

Slime Rancher is one of the best-reviewed games on Steam with a 98% positive average score. It  has sold over 6 million copies across all platforms with over 15 million players worldwide. Slime Rancher 2 launched into Early Access on September 22, 2022 and sold over 300,000 copies during its  first week in release. The game was originally created by artist and designer Nick Popovich along with Mike Thomas, designer Chris Lum, artists Ian McConville and Victoria Joh, with music by Harry Mac.

Story Kitchen was founded by Derek Kolstand (the creator of John Wick) and Dmitri M. Johnson (producer of Sonic the Hedgehog) and former APA agent/partner Mike Goldberg. Among Story Kitchen is also working on Tomb Raider and Splinter Cell for Netflix, Sega’s Toejam & Earl and It Takes Two for Amazon and Streets of Rage for Lionsgate.
