Chris Houghton and Shane Houghton, the sibling duo who created and executive produce Disney Channel’s multi-Emmy-nominated animated series Big City Greens, have signed on to a new overall deal with Disney Branded Television. The announcement was Friday during the winter Television Critics Association press tour.
The multi-year agreement will see the Houghtons produce animated projects with Disney Television Animation, as well as developing live-action projects across all platforms with DBT, and opens the door for a potential adult animated project with 20th Television Animation.
They are represented by Gotham Group and the Law Offices of Matt Saver.
Now in its fourth season with a musical movie due to release this summer, the series follow optimistic, 10-year-old mischief-maker Cricket Green, who moved from the country to the big city with his wildly out of place family: hard-working father Bill, sweet-and-sour Gramma Alice and quirky older sister Tilly. Season 3 saw the Greens and Cricket’s friend Remy move back to the country homestead in Smalton.
Big City Greens is inspired by the Houghtons’ own childhoods in small-town Michigan, and has inspired other animated extensions such as the Disney Channel digital short-form series Broken Karaoke and Random Rings, as well as last year’s live-animated National Hockey League telecast NHL Big City Greens Classic.
