Billion-Dollar ‘Super Mario Bros.’ Blockbuster Power Jumps to Digital May 16

Shattering box-office records and generating over a billion dollars worldwide, Nintendo and Illumination’s video game-inspired animated gut The Super Mario Bros. Movie will be available to home audiences tomorrow, May 16, exclusively on digital platforms nationwide where you can buy or rent movies — from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.

Bringing the iconic pop culture characters to life in this CG-animated big-screen adventure are Chris Pratt (Jurassic World franchise) as Mario, Charlie Day (It’s Always Sunny in PhiladelphiaThe LEGO Movie) as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy (Last Night in Soho, The Queen’s Gambit) as Princess Peach, Keegan-Michael Key (Key & Peele) as Toad, Seth Rogan (Neighbors, An American Pickle) as Donkey Kong, Jack Black (Kung Fu Panda franchise) as Bowser and Fred Armisen (Wednesday, Portlandia) as Cranky Kong.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie

The movie tells the story of two Brooklyn plumbers who are brothers and best friends: Mario, the brave one with the “let’s-a go” attitude, and the perpetually anxious Luigi, who would prefer to go nowhere. The story opens as the Super Mario Brothers are reckoning with their struggling plumbing business, and wind up in a whirlwind adventure through Mushroom Kingdom. Through their journey, we meet a cast of familiar, lovable characters, ultimately uniting together to defeat the power-hungry villain, Bowser.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is directed by Teen Titans Go! duo Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic from a script by Matthew Fogel (Minions: The Rise of Gru), produced by Chris Meledandri, Founder & CEO of Illumination, and Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto for Nintendo.
