Rhino Home Video is getting mechanized with two big robot DVD releases for October and November.
Premiering in the mid-’60s, Gigantor featured a new and distinctive look marked by a cinematic sensibility and creative camera angles. The series centered on Jimmy Sparks, who uses a remote control device to send his father’s robot creation into battle against hostile aliens. A four-disc set, containing 26 uncut, black-and-white episodes in numerical order based on airdate, will be released on Oct. 22 with a suggested retail price of $59.95.
Nov. 26 will see the release of Transformers Season 2. The four-disc collector’s set will contain 24 episodes from the first half of the season, plus extras and special features. It retails for $59.95, with all four parts being sold separately as well. The second half of the season will be available April 2003.
