Venice, Calif.-based animation house Blur Studio has joined forces with Lapin Blanc, the animation unit of London commercials and film company Lucky Elliot to launch a new commercial production venture.
“Blur’s ability to tell great stories and create memorable characters in CG is gaining more and more recognition,’ says Blur’s creative director and founder Tim Miller. ‘We are thrilled with the opportunity to carry over these talents and experiences into the world of commercials. No doubt partnering with Lapin Blanc will help get us there’and we’ll have fun too!’
Blur Studio, which is celebrating its 10 anniversary this year, is currently in pre-production on a CG-animated feature, based on Miller’s visually stunning short, Rockfish. Miller and company are also developing a feature spinoff of the 2005 Oscar nominated short, Gopher Broke. Blur’s cutting-edge CG work has also been on display in features such as James Cameron’s Aliens of the Deep, Bulletproof Monk and Deep Rising. The studio currently houses 60 employees and owns proprietary CG software, an 18-camera motion capture system and over 600 CPU’s of render power.
“With regards to top billing CG features and ground-breaking animation, Blur Studio is the one to watch,’ notes Lapin Blanc partner Sean O’Kelly. ‘Two of their shorts are now in development as features, which is a good hit rate considering they’ve released only four shorts. They tie nicely with our own structure and we are very pleased to be working with Blur on commercials and game cinematics,”
