Sunday, Oct. 6 will be the last day to visit "Oscars in Animation" at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The exhibit showcases animated films that have been nominated for or have won an Academy Award, and offers visitors a rare look at original animation art spanning seven decades.
Featuring animated drawings, storyboards and three-dimensional character models from the biggest animated films, the exhibit also highlights the filmmaking process and the significance of the art form in cinema.
In addition to classic U.S. titles such as Dumbo, The Three Little Pigs, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, The Lion King and The Nightmare Before Christmas, the show includes materials from Oscar-winning animated productions from Canada, the former Czechoslovakia, Russia, Hungary, Italy and the U.K.
The exhibition was organized with the assistance of Mike Glad, owner of a private collection of animation art. Although numerous lenders contributed to the exhibition, the majority of items are on loan from Glad and the Glad Family Trust.
Like all Academy exhibitions, "Oscars in Animation" is free and open to the public. Gallery viewing hours through Friday are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and noon to 6 p.m. on weekends. For more information call 310-247-3600.
