The 4th Intl Animation Technologies Forum/Cartoon Master event will be held on Nov. 14-16 in Angoulême, France in the building housing the Centre National de la Bande Dessinée et de lImage.
Organized by Magelis, the Angoulême Pole Image, with support from Cartoon, within the framework of "Cartoon Masters," and with the patronage of the National Cinematograph Centre, the forum is designed to be a think tank for animation and video game professionals around the world.
3D animation, the production of animated feature films and motion capture will be the main topics explored over the course of three days. The event will kick off on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 11:00 a.m. with a workshop on the 12 principles of 3D character animation, presented by Disney digital production manager Isaac Kerlow. Representatives from ILM, PDI, Pixar and Sparx will also be among the professionals on hand to discuss the 3D production line throughout the afternoon.
Fridays festivities will focus on the production of a feature film in Europe, with several producers sharing their insight and experience. Attendees will also get a preview of the eagerly awaited animated feature les Triplettes de Belleville, from director Sylvain Chomet and producing entity Les Armateurs.
Also to be covered are various techniques applied to animation movies, technical and matching methods, techniques and tools to manage the telecine chain and the use of high definition video.
Saturdays session on motion capture will underscore the techniques capacity to respond to productivity and technical constraints as well as artistic consistency in the course of production.
The Forum will conclude with a technical presentation of animation work to include a talk on the making of Monsters Inc. by Pixar animator Kyle Balda (A Bugs Life, Monsters Inc.). Balda also served as animation director on Toy Story 2.
