The 1955 sci-fi classic It Came From Beneath The Sea, featuring the stop motion wizardry of Ray Harryhausen, will kick off “Film in the Fog” at the Presidio Of San Francisco’s historic Main Post Theatre on Saturday, Oct. 5. Festivities begin at 5 PM.
The 63-year-old theatre, dark since the U.S. Army left the Presidio in 1994, will play host to the free screening. It will also be open for public tours.
It Came From Beneath The Sea, which was partially shot in the Presidio and the City, sees San Francisco under attack from a giant radioactive octopus. The film was originally screened for soldiers and their families inside the Main Post Theatre in May 1956.
The outdoor screening will begin at 7 p.m., following a performance by the SuperSonic Saxes of the Air National Guard Band of the West Coast, which will begin at 5 p.m. The film will be preceded by a vintage newsreel and the 1947 classic Tex Avery cartoon, King Size Canary.
“Film in the Fog” is a co-presentation of the San Francisco Film Society. Organizers suggest that attendees bring lawn chairs and blankets. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.
