The CG brainpower over at Hollywood’s Gnomon School of Visual Effects just got a boost as visual effects specialist Richard Kidd and Disney development pro Patricia Beckmann will join the ranks of its advisory board. As board members, Kidd and Beckmann will help steer Gnomon’s development, curriculum and overall direction.
Beckmann, a former Gnomon student and continuing fan of the school’s instructional DVDs, is the artistic and professional development manager at Disney feature animation, Circle Seven and the foundation chair for SIGGRAPH 2007. With experience working for major studios like Warner Digital and Film Roman, and producing original content for entertainment companies like the Oxygen Network and the Children’s Television Workshop, she will make a valuable addition to the Gnomon Board.
Founder of Santa Monica effects powerhouse Catalyst Media, Kidd brings loads digital production experience to Gnomon, having pioneered work with technologies like motion capture, cyberscan, virtual sets, fully CG characters and digital water. Over the years he has racked up an impressive list of film effects credits, including Titanic, Castaway, Armageddon and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe.
