The Boston Society of Film Critics has made its picks for the top films of 2008, casting Disney/Pixar’s WALL’E and Fox Searchlight’s Slumdog Millionaire in a tie for Best Picture. The latest animated tour de force from Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo), WALL’E was also named Best Animated Feature by the organization of reviewers from Beantown publications and media outlets.
WALL’E has already been voted Best Picture of the Year by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, and Best Animated Feature by the New York Film Critics Circle. It was also nominated for the Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature last week, along with DreamWorks Animation’s Kung Fu Panda and Disney’s Bolt.
The late Heath Ledger has earned another Best Supporting Actor award for his work in Warner Bros.’ Batman thriller The Dark Knight. His Joker performance helped the pic gross nearly a billon dollars at the box office worldwide, and is likely to garner an Oscar nomination next month. The movie itself is sure to rack up multiple Academy Award nods, perhaps even for Best Picture.
