Anima 2009, the Brussels Animation Festival, is set to open Friday with a preview of Hayao Miyazaki’s most recent film, Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea.
Ponyo will be the opening night film for the festival, which runs through Feb. 28 in Belgium.
The festival will also feature preview screenings of the stop-motion film Panique au Village (A Town Called Panic) and comic strip adaptation Gaston Lagaffe.
The festival also features special guests Bill Plympton, a Ralph Bakshi retrospective and an appearance by Gabor Csupo, whose film Immigrants (L.A. Dolce Vita) is screening.
