Dragon Ball Z Brings Ratings Heat

Cartoon Network’s Dragon Ball Z bowled down the competition with the launch of its eighth season on Sept. 16. The Toonami afternoon action-adventure block anchor rated No. 1 with tweens 9-14, boys 9-14 and men 12-24 on all cable TV.

Produced by Ft. Worth, Texas-based FUNimation Productions Ltd., the series follows the adventures of Goku and his fellow Z-fighters who battle to keep the awesome power of the Dragon Balls from falling into the hands of evil warlords.

According to Cartoon Network, the show’s ratings jumped more than 70% among boys 9-14 and 120% among men 12-24 compared to the same period last year. The Wednesday, Monday and Tuesday airings drew more boys 9-14 than any other show on cable or network TV, beating out Survivor: Thailand on CBS.

The Dragon Ball Z Web site (www.dragonballz.com) receives over 7 million hits a day and more than 14 million videos have been sold.
