Kids and many adults will be glued to the set this Saturday, Sept. 14 as a bevy of new animated shows premiere.
Warner Bros. debuts Ozzy & Drix on Kids’ WB! Based on characters from the feature film Osmosis Jones, the series follows the adventures of Ozzy, a white blood cell cop, and Drix, an over-the-counter cold pill, as they defend the City of Hector — the body of a 13-year-old boy. Also new on Kids’ WB! is What’s New Scooby-Doo?, an effort to update the classic series while staying true to its spirit.
The Fox Box offers some far-out new programming with Stargate Infinity, based on the live-action Stargate feature and the hit Showtime TV spin-off Stargate SG1. The network seeks to capitalize on another popular property with Kirby: Right Back at Ya!, featuring the Nintendo video game defender of Planet Popstar. The ultimate food fight kicks off with Fighting Foodons, about super-chefs who make warriors from hamburgers and other edibles, while Ultimate Muscle: The Kinnikuman Legacy puts a fantasy spin on the wrestling craze.
ABC enlists Disney’s Fillmore! into its Saturday lineup. The middle school comedy about an adolescent troublemaker turned loose cannon safety patrol officer takes its cues from ‘70s cop shows. For more information, see the Sept. issue of Animation Magazine.
Over on cabler ABC Family, Miramax Television, in collaboration with SME Visual Works Inc., introduces Tokyo Pig, an anime comedy romp about the adventures of Spencer and his magical pet pig, Sunny. The series marks Miramax’s first foray into kids’ television. New offerings also include the live-action/CG parallel universe fantasy Gladiator: Defenders of the Outer Dimension and the animated stock car adventure NASCAR Racers.
Bugs Bunny fans will have to wait until Monday, Sept. 16 to see the debut of Warner Bros. Animation’s Baby Looney Tunes on Cartoon Network.
