Unbound Moves Into Animation History

Los Angeles, New York and London-based Unbound has relocated its Unbound Animation Studio into the buildings occupied by Playhouse Pictures since 1952. Playhouse, which is relocating to larger facilities in West L.A., is recognized by the L.A. City Council as the oldest continuously operating animation studio in Hollywood. Next to Disney, it’s the second oldest in the world.

Unbound Studios, an emerging supplier of broadcast design and series animation, will no doubt be inspired by the location’s history. In the past 50 years, such classic animated works as the opening title sequences for You Bet Your Life with Groucho Marx and more than 3,500 commercials and shortsubject films have been produced at the Playhouse Pictures studio.

Bill Janczewski, CEO and creative director of Unbound, notes, "These buildings have a tremendous sense of history and we are honored to continue producing animation within their walls. Playhouse has been an icon in this business for so many years."

Renovations of the buildings will take place over the next few months as Unbound settles into the space. Alex Reed, senior animation producer, notes that the team is planning "a great party" to welcome the new neighbors.

Unbound’s clients nclude Paramount, Sony, Warner Bros., Nickelodeon, Fox Kids, Sesame Workshop, The Jim Henson Company, Teen People, TV Land, TNN, Comedy Central, Kellogg’s and Mattel.
