Robert Zemeckis will direct Tom Hanks in a feature film adaptation of Chris Van Allsburg’s best-selling childrens book The Polar Express. The project will be produced by Castle Rock Ent. for Warner Bros.
A representative of Castle Rock tells us that they are waiting for a script and are not sure if the holiday family flick will be entirely CG or a combination of live action and digital animation.
The story involves a young boys magical Christmas Eve train ride to the North Pole, where he receives a special gift from Santa. Hanks will play the train conductor. A holiday 2004 release has been targeted.
