Legendary Entertainment’s hybrid comedy Animal Friends has signed on Ellie Bamber (Willow, The Serpent) to the cast. The project is billed as an R-rated road trip adventure shot in live action with animated characters.

Bamber joins previously announced cast members Ryan Reynolds, Jason Momoa, Aubrey Plaza, Daniel Levy, Addison Rae and Lil Rel Howery. The British actress, winner of an Ian Charleson Award honoring classical stage performances by actors under 30, has starred as Dove (the disguised Elora Danan) in Lucasfilm’s Willow series for Disney+, Mandy Rice-Davies in The Trial of Christine Keeler and Cosette in the limited series Les Misérables, both for BBC One. Her film credits include Red, White & Royal Blue, The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, Nocturnal Animals and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

Animal Friends is the brainchild of writing duo Kevin Burrows & Matt Mider— creators of the GQ digital animated series Gentlemen Lobsters — from a general meeting with Patrick Gooing (of Ryan Reynolds’ Maximum Effort), with Emmy winner Peter Atencio (Key and Peele, Keanu) attached to direct.

The film is being produced by Legendary, Maximum Effort and Prime Focus Studios, with VFX and animation provided by DNEG (The Garfield Movie, Nimona, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire).

Bamber is represented by UTA and Curtis Brown Group.
